Delta Authors on Tour in the Farwest Region

 Delta Authors on Tour is a signature initiative of the National Arts & Letters Commission, showcasing the literary talents of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. members. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, this event highlights the work of more than 300 Delta authors across various genres, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and children's literature. Delta Sigma Theta proudly champions African American literature and supports its members in their writing endeavors. Attendees will enjoy book signings, engaging discussions, and opportunities to connect with featured authors. 

The Tempe Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is honored to invite you to Delta Authors on Tour, themed Turning the Pages: Stories of Resilience and Hope. This premier literary event celebrates the brilliance of Black Delta authors from across the country.


Join us for an inspiring day of storytelling, culture, and connection. Enjoy engaging discussions, book signings, and opportunities to meet authors shaping the narrative of our communities. Featured genres include Children’s Fiction, Poetry, Self-Help, Religious, Women’s Fiction, and Sci-Fi/Mystery.

Meet the Authors

Ann Clay

 An avid reader and lover of positive, strong men, Award-Winning Author ANN CLAY, began her writing venture in 1999. Duly recognized for her warm-hearted stories, bursting with memorable characters, places, and special moments, Ann ventures into several genres, however, she prefers romantic versions of life and living.  She resides in Southern Illinois with family and loves hearing from her readers.  

Nemia Cooper Miller

Nemia Carnese is a domestic violence survivor dedicated to empowering women and raising awareness about domestic abuse. In 2006, she founded Woman at the Well Ministry to support and heal women affected by domestic violence. As a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, she has served as the Domestic and Sexual Abuse Chair and mentored at-risk young women. 


Nemia holds multiple degrees, including a Master of Science in Technology with a focus on Human Resource Management, and is the HR Director at an Ivy League institution. A newly published author and podcast host, she shares valuable and empowering insights for women of color through her platforms. Based in the Chicagoland area, she enjoys reading, fitness, and spending time with her family. For bookings, visit NemiaCarnese.com.

Deborah Estell

 Deborah Estell is a grandmother, mother, licensed marriage and family therapist, retired educator, university instructor, radio co-host, vocalist, and proud member of Delta Sigma Theta. Pinned by her daughter, she has served as Recording Secretary, 1st Vice President, and Chaplain for SFAC. A devoted servant of God, Deborah shares her life’s wisdom to inspire and uplift others.  


 Now a Delta Dear, she remains committed to service, especially to empowering youth and spreading the message that There Is Grace. 

Cynthia Freeman Gibbs

 Cynthia Freeman Gibbs, a Lansing, Michigan native, holds a Business degree and MBA from Florida A&M University. After 22 years in corporate America, she began writing in 2016. She authored the Dr. Olivia C. Maxwell series, a fantasy novel as C.F. Gibbs, and co-authored Writing Is Essential. Her award-winning documentary The Quilt debuted in Delta Sigma Theta’s 2024 film festival. Based in San Antonio, Cynthia serves in church ministries and on nonprofit boards. 

Jackie Johnson

 Jackie Johnson is a second-generation Arizona native and a member of the Tempe Alumnae Chapter. Her love for writing, reading and storytelling began when she was very young. 

In 2019, her first published work, She - The Story of the Resilient Black Woman, was the Farwest Region Essay winner and included in the book Pride in Our Heritage Essays, Conversations & Sayings to Live By.


 A spoken word artist, Jackie has penned numerous poems, and inspirational and motivational writings highlighting the beauty and brilliance of Black people. 

Dr. Carliss R. McGhee

 Dr. Carliss R. McGhee, affectionately known as “Miss Carli” is a phenomenal storyteller and educator. Renowned for her captivating storytelling skills, she has the remarkable ability to engage the minds and imaginations of children, bringing excitement to her audiences. This is her eighth book, following acclaimed works such as “I Am Love” and “Oh To Be A Delta Girl.” Dr. McGhee is also the proud co-owner of Khocolate Keepsakes  Children’s Literacy Museum, a facility dedicated to promoting reading among inner-city children. She holds a doctorate in prenatal and prenatal and perinatal psychology. A native of Chicago, Illinois, Dr. McGhee currently resides in Los Angeles, California, with her family. 

Brandy Robinson

 Brandy is a versatile professional with a career as a government lawyer, UN Delegate for an NGO, associate professor, scholar, author, biotech executive, and TEDx speaker. Her journey into fiction led to her debut novel, "Bernice Rathe," and a related comic book series. She also created "Ebony and Ella," a children's book series addressing tough topics, complete with a designed curriculum. 


 In her TEDx talk, "Your Narrative is Your Super Power," she discussed how narrative writing can be a healing tool, linking it to her life experiences reflected in "Bernice Rathe." Beyond her career, Brandy enjoys spending time with loved ones, playing video games, watching movies, traveling, volunteering, and embracing spontaneity.
